Every year in December Pinterest publishes the top 100 trends it predicts will be hot news in the year ahead. The Pinterest 100 features the top 10 highest trending searches across it’s 10 most popular categories. As Pinterest is one of the go-to apps for interior design inspiration, as well as one of the most popular ways of researching many home and fashion purchases, seeing what is popular in search is a fairly accurate way of predicting what trends are heading our way in the year ahead.
Last year the Pinterest 100 for 2018 predicted an increase in resort style with global influences across furniture and accessories. Mixed metallics along with herringbone patterns in tiling, flooring and textiles. I’ve seen some of these trends in homes across the pages of design magazines and instagram however there was also terrazzo which although popular in searches has not crossed into the home design market so readily.
So what’s in store this year? Let’s take a look at what trends Pinterest predicts are heading into our homes in 2019.
Rebel Yellow
Searches for mustard yellow are up 45%. Mustard yellow has been on the radar for a while now.

It was first tipped in Spring 2018 by Pantone to appear in their Autumn/ Winter Trend colour report and sure enough we saw lots of lovely mustard yellow furniture in the Autumn collections. It has almost overtaken deep blue as the most popular colour for a velvet sofa on instagram.

Macrame wall hangings, beautifully printed and embroidered fabrics show a renewed interest in artisan crafts and the beauty of things uniquely made in contrast to the mass production of the high street.
Bold Pattern and Colour
Refresh the walls with a splash of colour. Bold walls were on the way up last year with colour and pattern taking centre stage. Searches for bold print wallpaper were up 401%. Patterned wallpapers are definitely on the up with tropical prints and bright floral patterns at the forefront.

Small Space Gardening
Cacti and succulents continue in popularity with searches for cactus arrangements up by 235%.

Natural Swimming Pools
I can’t imagine this one is so big in the UK as we don’t really get the weather for it but it is nice to see the search is on for a sustainable and more environment friendly solution as natural swimming pool searches are up 262%
