Finding Christmas decor ideas for your home is something I really look forward to each year. There’s something about all the preparations of making your home ready for some time off to relax and have fun with the family that really warms my heart. It is a great time to declutter and get all those niggly little cleaning or DIY jobs done. Create a Chrstmassy feel in around your home ready to welcome friends and family into your home.
This year I’d like a Christmas that is stylish and sophisticated. I’ve been doing some trend research to pick out the best Christmas decor ideas, there is a lot of information out there. One of the articles I loved was transforming your room to create Santas Grotto with Sloane and Son's worth a read. I had a good look at what is available in the stores this season and here’s what I found…
Christmas Trees
It seems white trees are all the rage. Whilst I always choose a traditional tree myself, seeing how beautiful they can look when adorned with pale pink baubles and shimmering lights, I think I could be swayed.
This white tree from Wilko really makes an impact. Keeping things simple with white is an easy way to colour coordinate your Christmas decorations.
If you want to add a little colour into your Christmas decor take inspiration from the John Lewis Sanctuary collection. Follow the earthy pink colour trend and decorate a pre-lit sanctuary spruce tree from John Lewis (£499) in beautiful shades of blush pink, champagne and copper.
I do love a traditional style Christmas tree. This one from John Lewis is decorated in traditional golds and greens from the John Lewis Garden Retreat Collection. Deep green was another trend that was highlighted in our earlier colour trends blog post. I think we'll be seeing more greens in our colour palette next year following the popularity of the softer green shades of Tranquil Dawn.
Christmas Decor Ideas for Tables
Tablescape is a search term I’ve come to trust for finding inspiring table decor on Pinterest and Instagram. When looking for inspiring Christmas table decor there is so much to choose from.
Some of the best Christmas decor ideas for your home are also the simplest. Branches of fresh leaves from Eucalyptus holly trees, rosemary bushes, lavender bushes and bay trees laid all the way down the centre of the table will not only look stunning but will fragrance the room beautifully too and give it a really Christmassy feel. Place names on cute matching cards to make the occasion extra special.
This simple Christmas table from Kelly Hoppen. Is a masterclass in how to decorate with white. The natural green of the foliage is the only colour letting the stylish all white place settings and and beautiful glassware do the talking.
If you like an opulent Christmas table this table setting from Next golds accented with rich reds and greens will be more to your liking.
Try something simple yet creative as a centre piece - a large glass vase filled with the same baubles as your tree will look very effective. You could even try one large glass vase in the centre with smaller ones alongside - these could be filled with anything that will match such as candles, flowers, pebbles, shells or sweets - depending on your theme.
Interior Design Tip: Create interest at different levels by hanging decorations over your table. This tree branch with baubles and fairy lights from Lights 4 Fun is a really creative idea to add interest to your Christmas Table.
Christmas Wreaths
Wreaths are a really versatile way to add Christmas decor into the home. We normally see them on doors but as well as this they look great as table centrepieces, hung on walls or mirrors over the mantelpiece. Wreaths made from eucalyptus and holly leaves have a lovely fragrance and a Christmassy feel.
An alternative to the traditional Christmas wreath is this half wire wreath from Lights 4 Fun. Perfect for a Scandi style minimalist home.
I also really love these beautiful fresh floral wreaths from The Real Flower Company
Christmas Presents
I really love a present wrapping theme. Why not theme your wrapping to match your Christmas tree decor. Think about which colours will look good under your tree. Pick colours from your choice of baubles and find wrapping paper and ribbons to match.
Matching the lovely blush themed Christmas tree we saw earlier the Pussy Willow and Snowflake wrapping papers from John Lewis are a gorgeous combination of pink and gold.
Christmas Mantelpiece
There are so many options for the mantelpiece at Christmas. It is an easy idea space to also echo your table decor. A continuing theme of leaf garlands and candles is lovely to share throughout the house.
Lights4Fun has an amazing selection of lights and Christmas decor ideas for your home. Beautiful candles fairy lights and fun accessories like these light up stars which look lovely on the mantelpiece or tree.
Hang a wreath or a few Christmas stockings. Leafy garlands strung with coloured baubles and fairy lights or a few white or gold twigs. Scandi style wooden decorations and a few simple plain candles. Be as bold or as simple as you like!
I love these Penelope Hope Christmas leopard print Christmas stockings to add a bit of glamour to your Christmas mantelpiece.
