Interior design trends in Colour
Move over beige and greige. 2017 sees the return of colour to interior design. In December Pantone announced Greenery, an intense bright green, as colour of the year. Dulux named Denim Drift a deep, muted shade of blue as their colour of the year and this is being followed in a trend for darker, more intense room designs.
A burst of colour is no longer restricted to accessories and fabrics. Living rooms, bedrooms and kitchens are darker bringing a cosier feeling into the home. Deeper colours are increasingly seen in contrast to natural materials. Grey was a popular colour throughout 2016 and continues to appear although in deeper tones than seen previously. Other colours that will be big this year include teal, dusky rose pink, olive greens and metallic tones such as bronze, copper and brass.
Materials and Surface Design
2017 will see a return to more natural finishes. Moving away from sleek, man-made and high gloss surfaces, there is a return to re-connecting with nature, bringing the outdoors in, cherishing vintage pieces, future heirlooms and traditional craftsmanship. The emphasis is on natural materials such as wood, exposed brick, terracotta, and marble feature in floor and wall coverings.

Furniture trends for 2017
Scandinavian lifestyles continue to influence homes. The year of ‘hygge’, the Danish definition of a feeling of contentment and well-being from enjoying life’s simple pleasures is followed by ‘lagom’ - the Swedish art of not too much and not too little. John Lewis has embraced this with their new Lagom furniture range.

The furniture is beautifully and skilfully made. In addition statement leather chairs are making a comeback. Look out for classically crafted pieces such as the Eames lounge chair, classic leather club chairs or mid-century pieces.

Velvet sofas in deep colours bring texture into rooms. This one is from Heals. You can discover more of their recent Autumn/Winter collection on our blog. This is a luxurious statement piece contrasting with deeper wall colours and metallic accents in lighting and occasional furniture.

Prints are big in 2017. Inspired by Instagram, typography and feel good quotations are featured in gallery walls of mix and match images.

Bringing the outside in, thanks to the Pantone Greenery trend, sees plants in every room. Plants bring a feeling of well-being into a home, helping to remove pollutants and brighten a room with a splash of colour.
Plants and natural wood in the home
Succulents and cacti, with their strong shapes and colour are fashionable choices. If you’re not fond of the real thing, botanical and tropical prints and patterns are an alternative choice in this seasons fabrics and accessories ranges.
